Socio-Economic Development, incl. Microfinance

LAEC, in line with the Lao PDR’ priorities, provides a variety of specialized services for development projects needing inputs in the area for the development of socio-economic, climate change adaptation and natural resources conservation, community-based disaster risk management. The services offered include projects aiming at poverty reduction, facilitating resettlement, enhancing public infrastructure, improving health and sanitation as well as land rehabilitation. Regarding micro-finance, LAEC provides consultancy services, including market assessment, policy formulation, monitoring, evaluation of income generating projects and technical, training and organizing expertise for village saving and credit schemes to ensure a sustainable micro-finance activity. Cultural, ethnic and gender needs are identified and addressed throughout the consultancies.

Hydro-Power

LAEC has a skilled team of engineers and technicians, delivering a range of services and support for small to large scale hydro-power projects, including: preparing feasibility studies; engineering reports; undertaking environmental and socio-economic surveys; design; and expert supervision through the construction phase.

Rural Development and Community Development

LAEC has practical experience and skills in conducting needs assessment and impact analysis, through “Participatory Appraisals” (PA) and other methodologies, in view of ensuring local involvement and project sustainability. Special attention is given to a balanced approach sensitive to environmental, ethnic and gender needs.
